Location: Telford & Wrekin / Shropshire (Hybrid: community, office & remote)Contract: Part‑time (up to 15 hours per week) fixed term contract (ends 30/9/2027)

Salary: £40k maximum, depending on experience.

Actual salary: £16,216

About the CAFFS Service

The Citizens Advice Forces Family Service (CAFFS) is a new, multidisciplinary service designed to deliver holistic, trauma‑informed support to Armed Forces families across Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire.

We work with families facing challenges such as:

  • mental‑health difficulties or neurodiversity
  • complex social or family pressures
  • school, housing or employment problems
  • cost‑of‑living pressures and financial hardship

Support is delivered through community outreach, early intervention, specialist casework, multi‑agency partnerships, and accessible digital routes. As part of this model, the Mental Health Practitioner role brings dedicated clinical expertise into an integrated team focused on improving outcomes for whole families.

The Role

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Practitioner to deliver emotional‑wellbeing and therapeutic support to adults, children and families who are experiencing mental‑health challenges or significant stressors.

You will:

  • Conduct trauma‑informed assessments
  • Deliver short‑term therapeutic and wellbeing interventions
  • Provide crisis support, stabilisation and safety planning
  • Build trusted relationships with people who may feel distressed or disengaged
  • Work closely with caseworkers, schools, health professionals, veteran‑support organisations, and voluntary‑sector partners
  • Contribute clinical insight that strengthens our early‑help and whole‑family approach

Key Responsibilities

Direct Clinical & Wellbeing Support

  • Deliver mental‑health assessments and brief interventions
  • Provide crisis response and emotional‑wellbeing planning
  • Support clients with a wide range of mental‑health and emotional needs

Integrated Multi‑Agency Working

  • Collaborate with CAFFS colleagues, support services, schools, Armed Forces stakeholders, health professionals and partners
  • Share clinical insight that enhances wrap‑around family support

Holistic Family‑Centred Practice

  • Support children, parents and carers where mental health intersects with wider pressures
  • Embed clinical expertise across community‑based delivery

Professional Standards

  • Maintain accurate and confidential case notes
  • Engage in supervision and reflective practice
  • Ensure safeguarding and anti‑discriminatory practice is upheld at all times

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Experience delivering mental‑health interventions or wellbeing support
  • Ability to work confidently with families experiencing crisis or complex needs
  • Strong engagement, communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload across remote and in‑person settings
  • Accredited or working towards accreditation with BACP, NCS or UKCP
  • Commitment and access to independent supervision and professional development
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable

  • Experience supporting Armed Forces families
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed approaches
  • Understanding of local Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin support systems
